On June 21, Fan Bo, Member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Jiangsu Provincial Committee and Secretary of the CPC Suzhou Municipal Committee, and Wang Wei, Mayor of Suzhou, met with a delegation led by Dilma Rousseff, President of the New Development Bank (NDB). Wang Tianqi, Director-General of the Jiangsu Provincial Department of Finance, attended the meeting.

On behalf of the CPC Suzhou Municipal Committee and the Municipal People’s Government, Fan Bo and Wang Wei extended a warm welcome to Dilma Rousseff and her delegation. Fan Bo noted that Suzhou is a pivotal central city in eastern China. Guided by the vision of “epitomizing the future of development”, Suzhou is committed to seizing major opportunities including the integrated development of key sectors between Shanghai and Suzhou, building a key supporting pivot for the Shanghai (Yangtze River Delta) International Science and Technology Innovation Center, and developing a national demonstration zone for new industrialization. By fostering new quality productive forces tailored to local conditions, Suzhou strives to shoulder core responsibilities as Jiangsu province takes lead in advancing Chinese modernization. It is hoped that the NDB will further deepen exchanges and cooperation with Suzhou, boost trade relations between Suzhou and BRICS countries, and deliver greater mutual benefits and win-win outcomes. Suzhou will unswervingly advance high-standard opening-up, foster a world-class business environment that is market-oriented, law-based and internationalized, and fully support BRICS enterprises to grow and thrive in the city.

Dilma Rousseff said that the visit to Suzhou allowed her to experience the profound history and economic prosperity of this open city. The New Development Bank remains optimistic about Suzhou’s development prospects. She expressed readiness to deepen cooperation with Suzhou in sectors such as energy storage, smart hospital construction, and low-carbon and green development, to deliver more landmark cooperation projects. She hoped that Suzhou can leverage its strengths to strengthen exchanges and collaboration with BRICS nations, enabling mutual learning of experience and complementarity of advantages to jointly pursue high-quality development.

The meeting was also attended by Zhou Qiangwu, Vice President and Chief Administrative Officer of the NDB; Gu Haidong, Vice Mayor of Suzhou; and Qian Yu, Member of the Party Leadership Group of the Suzhou Municipal People’s Government.
